Concert of Andrea Bocelli 20th July 2008

Teatro del silenzio is a unique open-air theater on a large Tuscan hill surrounded by yellow wheat fields. The setting is unique for the indescribable beauty of the countryside all around and for its atmosphere of peace and quietness. Some years ago the popular singer Andrea Bocelli decided to create this theater near his birth-town Lajatico in Valdera, 40 kms South of Pisa. Helped by some brilliants architects and artists, he chose a unique location just outside the town and created a fantastic natural theater over the ridge of a descending hill immersed in a sea of golden fields. First opened in July 2006, Teatro del Silenzio is a very peculiar infrastructure with a huge stage adorned by a charming pond that hosts giant sculptures changing at any concert. The stalls are arranged all along the hill in some imposing terracing.
The theater is only open once a year in July for a masterly concert of Andrea Bocelli and several guest stars from all over the world. The acoustics of the place together with its surroundings make the concert an annual music event one cannot not miss. The whole town Lajatico is closed and a shuttle bus service is organized from the near La Sterza for an audience of nearly 7000 people. This year the concert of Andrea Bocelli at Teatro del Silenzio takes place on Sunday 20th July 2008.
