Golf in Tuscany

Golfers in Tuscany share the same passion for the sport as many millions do throughout the world. The difference between playing a round of golf in Tuscany and playing a round of golf elsewhere is that Tuscan golfers get to play regularly on the large number of courses scattered throughout the idyllic landscape.

In total, Tuscany boasts 15 golf courses with 9 of the courses playing the full 18 holes and the remaining 6 courses limited to 9 holes. The courses are virtually playable all-year-round as the mild climate in the region rarely spoils a chance to play golf. On top of this, there are 7 promotional courses in the area and 6 practices courses listed. This will give you enough choice for whatever level of skill you have.

One impressive golf course found among the hills near San Gimignano is the Castelfalfi Golf Course. This course stretches 5,869 meters and has par of 73. It is well within easy traveling distance from Florence and can prove to be challenging for amateur golfers. In fact, virtually all golf courses in Tuscany are within an hours drive from Florence and this can mean getting the chance to sample how a few different courses play.

Tirrenia Golf If playing golf in the hills of Tuscany doesn’t appeal to you, perhaps a trip across to the Cosmopolitan Golf club on the Tirrenia coast will help you get to grips with playing golf by the sea. This course is located just south of Pisa, is par 72 and stretches of 5,830 meters. The outward 9 holes are pretty straightforward but the challenge takes hold on the back 9 holes as water hazards start to enter into the equation. An actual clubhouse does exist for the Cosmopolitan golf course, unlike the more informal arrangement at Castelfalfi.

Perhaps the best maintained course in the Tuscany region is the Golf Club Le Pavoniere. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer and the club has all the expected facilities with a modern driving range, a good restaurant and pool. The total length of the course is 6137 meters and the 14th hole Par 3 is a challenge to reach with an iron for less experienced players. The 19th hole is definitely a place to relax after negotiating the water hazards on the 11th and 18th.

Overall, golf in Tuscany can provide a good golfing experience whether you want to challenge a full course, relax on a 9 hole course or simply make use of the practice courses to improve your game while on vacation.
