Discovering Pisa, its treasures and beaches

Picture: View of Pisa along the Arno

Of course, there is hardly anyone in the world, who does not know Pisa’s famous symbol: the leaning tower, which has been leaning since centuries and which has never toppled down so far. We will therefore not spend too much time to talk about the Leaning Tower, the still more magnificent Duomo,  the Baptistery and the Cemetery, which all together form the world famous Piazza dei Miracoli, the square of Miracles, one of the architectural jewels of our land. Certainly everyone who comes to Pisa, will sooner or later cross this beautiful place.

But Pisa and its province has much more to offer than these monuments. Those who decide to stay a few days, will find a lot of pleasant surprises like idyllic beaches, rolling hills, picturesque plains, majestic mountains, medieval villages with many historical treasures and last but not least, an excellent cuisine. A farm holiday in the surroundings of Pisa will for sure offer an unforgettable experience.

About Pisa itself, we will no longer storytelling. We leave it to your curiosity to discover the beauty of this city. We only give you some general information. Pisa and the Arno River, which flows through the city, are closely connected by the history. Since the year one thousand Pisa, was the last station of the journey along the Arno to the sea, and this was the reason for its wealth. But during the centuries the course of the riverbead has changed and so Pisa lost more and more its proximity to the sea. In 1162 Pisa was two km away, in 1400 four and now it is 12 kilometer away form the sea.

Especially if you made a long journey to arrive, we recommend to enjoy a walk by the sea ,after having visited  the city. Those who love the nature should go to Marina di Vecchiano, where they will find a gorgeous, mile-long beach within a nature reserve. The Apuan Alps in the background offer a breathtaking panorama. Those who love rocky and pebble beaches, should go to Marina di Pisa and those who are looking for a chichi resort with a hot night life, will find in Tirrenia what they are looking for.
